Katha Ghera presents Vagina Monologues 3.0, introducing fourteen beautiful women in their respective characters. This drama portraits the stories of diverse women covering the subject matter of society relating to sexuality, violence, harassment, gender identity, sexual orientation, and love. The organizer wants to spread its impact to more men and women in Nepal through this drama and people feel closer to home as it is in the Nepali language. However, organizer accommodates English speaking audiences too. Last year, they adapted it to the Nepali language as “Yoni ka Katha”.
Vagina Monologues is going to happen from March 2nd to March 6th, 2018 at Nepal Tourism Board, Bhrikutimandap at 5 pm sharp. Likewise, Women’s day special show will be going to happen on March 8th, 2018 at EVOKE Café & Bistro, 6 pm onwards. The Vagina Monologues is written by American writer Eve Ensler and gets performed in over 140 countries all over the world each year. Likewise, Akanchha Karki and Gunjan Dixit are the co-founders of Katha Ghera who initiated this concept in Nepal as well.
The main motto of this drama is to collect funds to reach out to the communities in Nepal in need of compassion, healing, and empathy. This will be done through a traveling Playback Theatre troupe doing shows across the country. The team believes in the transparency, accountability, and productivity of self-run initiatives driven by passion and believes in meaningful, genuine processes and tangible reaching out.
Katha Ghera is self-sustaining theatre collective with a vision of bringing marginalized stories to the forefront with sincere responsibility and commitment and had five successful shows which garnered great reviews. “Katha”/ story is the fundamental thread which connects us to humanity and portrays the stories of people and places that have inspired people. Whereas “Ghera” represents the circular safe and sacred space. In Theatre, they share thoughts in the circle the idea of equality gets reinforced as everybody is seen and heard.
